May Project: May 8th - June 7th, 2023
Over this summer I had to opportunity to work with MIAD faculty on a project to better understand and build my graphic design abilities. Before actually having the chance to work with our firms for the internship, we had the opportunity to take a class at MIAD that would teach us a lot of the basics of communication design. We learned about typography, hierarchy, color, and layout, and how to combine these elements in order to create visually appealing designs.
Once we had learned the basics, we were tasked with using all the information we had learned in order to create a poster for a fictional gallery we would be holding to display our artwork. I really enjoyed this project because I had the opportunity to use Adobe Illustrator to create the poster which was an app I had never worked with before. I was able to use interesting fonts, colors, and layout to create a poster that I found interesting to look at. Overall, this was an amazing experience which allowed me to explore a medium I had never worked with before, and it allowed me to increase my general knowledge of graphic design before working in the field. |
Hanson Dodge Internship: June 20th- June 30th, 2023
After completing the May project I was given the opportunity to participate in an internship with the company Hanson Dodge. Hanson Dodge is an advertising agency which partners with brands to help them gain exposure and create campaigns that reflect the brands in a unique way. Working with Hanson Dodge was an amazing and fulfilling experience and taught me a lot about advertising that I had never thought about before. It was also great for me to gain experience in a feild that I'm interesting in going into since I want to be a Graphic Designer. This internship helped me to see the inner working off an advertising agency, and how all the different branches work together.
During the first week of the internship we were introduced to each of the departments of Hanson Dodge and had the opportunity to learn about each of them and ask any questions that we had. I learned a lot of very valuable information from this first week, and everything that I learned I was able to apply during the next week of the internship.
During the second week of the internship we were introduced to an actual client to create a campaign for. Our client was the Milwaukee Pretzel Company and our task was to create a campaign that targeted a younger audience and was unique and creative. Once we were split up into our teams we got to work with them to come up with not only a campaign but also some mock-up advertisements for the client. On the right I included some of the brainstorming work I did for our advertisements and the storyboard I got to create. At the end of the week we had the opportunity to pitch and present our campaign to the client. |
